Apple: The New King of Tech!

There's no looking back for Apple! According to the New York Times, Apple has overtaken Microsoft as the 2nd most valued American company next to Exxon Mobil. I love this and have had faith since first using my first Macintosh back in 1992! Now, even my techy friends have all made the switch from PC to Mac in recent years. I'm sure they still have Linux boxes or other PCs sitting around, but the real workhorses are iMacs and Macbooks. They claim that it's just an easier development platform to deal with. Plus the OS is simple... the key difference in my opinion. Macs just seem to work. And, if they don't... Apple's customer service is pretty easy to deal with. Investors are saying “It is the single most important turnaround that I have seen in Silicon Valley,” said Jim Breyer, a venture capitalist who has invested in some of the most successful technology companies. Congratulations to Apple. Today you win.... and yes, I am a Mac.

I think that Mac's top capitalization is based on their success in the mobile space... not their desktop brilliance (or, as the anti-Mac part of me thinks, their ALLEGED brilliance).

Microsoft has been pretty ineffective in non-desktop, non-server environments . They have also been challenged repeatedly on many fronts by Google. As Google turns its focus to Apple's products, I would expect there will be some erosion of their market shares and a probable reduction in the market cap.

As Apple grew increasingly nimble and innovative, Microsoft has struggled to build desirable updates to its main products and to create large new businesses in areas like game consoles, music players, phones and Internet search. Microsoft, which is a component stock of the Dow Jones industrial average, has lost half its value since 2000.
