Power of Persuasion with Typography

Why is typography important for lawyers?

"When you speak to a judge, do you stand at the lectern, eyes cast downward, and read from a script in a monotone? No, of course not. To maintain the judge’s attention during your argument, you change the speed and volume of your delivery; you gesture; you extemporize. You do this because you don’t merely want to be heard—you want to persuade. The text matters, but so does the presentation. So it is on the printed page."

The awesome power of persuasion is highly desired in any profession, not just for lawyers. What a smart way to make typography relevant (even if it may seem painfully obvious to us designers).

Type is also an important part of graphics art. It is likely that in most projects type is what covers most of the page. Through the use of the proper type face, size, and special effects type can be used to assist in the conveyance of information which is what graphics art is all about.

I couldn't agree more. No, this is not to be agreed upon. This is the fact already! I just hope public speaking is really taken very seriously by our education system.

I have no idea that typography is related to being a lawyer. It is interesting that Matthew Butterick maeks it relevant to the lawyers. I agree that lawyers shouldn't speak like reading a script in a monotone voice.
