Training in Seattle

This has been a tough year to train for the upcoming cycle events for Team PBDH (The Orange Train). The rain just keeps on and on, and each year I get a little more wussey about doing training rides in the wetness. Part of it is having to use my rain bike, which is much slower than the Wilier Triestina Izourd.

But today was a wondrous day in Seattle. It was not the start of summer, but most likely...summer. Well, at least we had one day.

While I was doing the lap around Lake Washington (50 miles of hills and flats), half with a 10 mile head wind, I had a nice chat with a chap at a traffic signal. He was also doing a training ride one week before the Flying Wheels Century next weekend. As the miles rolled by under me, I started thinking about this lap of the lake. Tons of people use it as a training ride since there are at least 7 hills to climb and stretches of flat for building speed. I thought "you know, this needs a name". So, here it is: Circumlakeution. You know: like circumnavigating the lake, like circumlocution. But circum-lake-ution.

Sorry, I must have been tired. But for a punster like me, it seemed appropriate. Feel free to use it in conversation ("I did three circumlakeutions this week, and I'm still impressed with the road maintenance in Renton").
